From the Editor: We Aim to Grow in 2010
January 1, 2010

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year,

It has been five months since we set a new goal to revive PinoyDirectory. So far, we have a few successes and a few failures. Here are the successes of 2009:

  1. Added over 500 entries into our directory of Filipino churches and Christian fellowships around the world.
  2. Added about 500 links into our database of recommended Web articles.
  3. Added two videos: Lupang Hinirang (Philippine National Anthem) and Star Spangled Banner (US National Anthem). We built this to allow any organization to easily have the words and music in any event, provided they have a projector or a large screen.
  4. Doubled the volume of traffic into PinoyDirectory.com.
  5. Moved to Google's Top Ten when searched in the two categories of 'pinoy directory' and 'filipino directory'.

Here are the failures of 2009:

  1. The Tagalog Dictionary and Tagalog Lessons feature was not implemented. We did begin the process and actually accumulated about 20,000 Tagalog words in our database. We will try to get this accomplished in 2010.
  2. We did not begin creating editorials. We will try to get this going for 2010.
  3. We did not create a new business directory. We will try to build this up for 2010.

Oftentimes, it is scary to publish a set of goals because it becomes a measure by which people see your failures. But I have found that there is always someone out there who, upon reading a set of goals, will whisper a wish or prayer of support. One such prayer is good enough to merit the risk of publishing goals. It helps move things forward when it's so easy to do nothing.

For 2010, we aim to double again the traffic to this Web site. We will work on our three failures in 2009 and accomplish them in 2010. We will look at our successes for 2009 and make sure they grow and evolve into more useful format.

We will also add lessons in HTML and allow people to add pages to this Web site. We are not yet ready to publish any rules for this. We will go slowly and hope to learn along the way. We don't aim to be like Facebook or Youtube because this is intended for Pinoys around the world. I believe working on this goal would be fun and educational.

Have a great year!
